Three things you need to know about Soroptimists in Carson City

Through our fundraisers and scholarship endowments, our
club donates thousands of dollars annually to improve the
lives of women and girls in our community so they can live
their dream.

Soroptimist International of Carson City supports these efforts through grants, scholarships, our mammogram program, community service,
and various special projects.

What Does “Soroptimist” Mean?
The word “Soroptimist” comes from the Latin “Soro” for sister
and “optima” for best. Soroptimist means Best for Women.
Soroptimist was started by professional businesswomen and
is an organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the
lives of women and girls.

      About the Carson City Club
      The Carson City club of Soroptimist International  (SICC)
      began on June 8, 1957. Over the years the club has supported
      the goal of women and girls’ economic development
      by promoting awareness, advocating and action, through
      volunteer service in our community all focused on advancing
      human rights and focusing on the status of women and
      children.

      We meet at noon, on the 2nd, and 4th Wednesdays most months.

      The Carson City Club is part of Sierra Nevada Region (SNR)
      with approximately 1200 members in 44 clubs located from
      Sacramento north to Yreka, CA and all of the state of Nevada.

      When did Soroptimist Start?
      Soroptimist began on October 3, 1921, when the first meeting
      was called to order by President Violet Richardson, in
      Oakland California, to serve the ideal of service. It has now
      grown to a network of nearly 65,000 club members in 136
      countries and territories working at a local, national, and
      international level to educate, empower and enable
      opportunities for women and girls.
