Live Your Dream: Education & Training Awards for Women
Application Deadline: extended to December 16, 2016
The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award assists women, who provide the primary source of financial support for their families, by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. Live Your Dream Award recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as for books, childcare, tuition, or transportation. Applicants may also be considered for Club tuition Scholarships.
Please read all criteria and follow all instructions. Ineligible applicants, incomplete applications, or applications submitted without reference forms will not be considered. Reference forms from two different people, not related to you, are required - reference letters are not acceptable. Priority consideration will be given to Carson City residents, but is not a requirement. Club recipients become eligible for Region-level awards; those recipients in turn become eligible for Finalist awards.
Each year, about $1.7 million is awarded through the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards program. Since 1972, the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards Program has disbursed more than $30 million to tens of thousands of women who have overcome poverty, domestic and sexual violence, divorce, the death of a spouse, or other life challenges - women who had the courage and determination to turn their lives around.
Grant Funds Program
Soroptimist International of Carson City grant program was designed specifically to distribute funds to worthy causes in our local area. Grants will range up to $1,000. Projects in the health, education, economic and social development, international goodwill and understanding, human rights/status of women and the environment will be considered for funding. Application information for 2017 grants will be available in January.
Girl the Month Awards
This monthly award to a current high school senior honors the recipients for commitment in community service, exemplary volunteerism, and efforts to enrich the experiences of others in society, at school and at home. One of these recipients will receive our Girl of the Year Scholarship.
Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women
An annual award to a woman who has made a significant difference in the lives of other women in our community. Nomination of the woman is sought from the Carson City community.The SI Carson City recipient's name each year is submitted for consideration of a regional award.Club Program - Dream It * Be It - Career Support for Girls
Dream It Be It is a new project, currently in the planning stages, that consists of conferences or small group mentoring to help girls discover their dreams; explore their careers; create achievable goals; rise above obstacles; turn failure into success; balance stress and put their dreams into action.
